The ever-increasing multi-day events such as festivals and sports events raise the demand for accommodation in the surrounding cities and towns. The cost of existing accommodation like hotels, apartments, camping is often pushed sky-high, with guests being forced to pay the higher rates in order to have a comfortable bed after a long day, somewhere as close as possible to the action.
Aware of the restrictions the cost of accommodation applies to young people or people on a lower income, Caboose & Co. were interested in finding out more about the real price increases in accommodation during events. So, we thought we’d have a look into the cost of accommodation in Portrush for the 148th Open Golf Tournament…
We searched Booking.com for accommodation in and around Portrush, for two adults, for two nights and then for 7 nights, across 17-19 July. It quickly became apparent the rates for these dates have been hiked-up enormously. Some are charging upwards of £1000 a night over The Open tournament, a 75% increase in their usual price. We found a centrally located penthouse apartment charging over £15,000 for 7 nights, a huge 92% increase in cost per night compared to their normal rates. There are some other factors to highlight at this point: it will be the beginning of the school holidays at this time, so rates will have increased anyway, but I think we can all agree that a 92% increase is a little excessive.
Here at Caboose & Co., we offer comfortable, luxury sleeping conditions, right in the middle of the action. Whether it’s in the form of The Open Camping Village or our luxury glamping pods, all of which have all the essentials to ensure a great stay. For the fourth year in a row, Caboose & Co. are managing The Open Camping Village, providing affordable accommodation right in the middle of the action. Aware of the restrictions the cost of accommodation may cause some people and families; we want to encourage attendance to these events by offering affordable accommodation. With 16-24 year olds staying free with their Open ticket, and adult prices from £40 per night (2018) this should make attending the event a much more realistic prospect for those who otherwise may have missed out.
We’ve got lots of exciting bookings for next year as well as The Open Camping Village, all will be revealed… watch this space!
